Choosing the right junior format for your child

We welcome boys and girls from age 5 to 17 to play with Eastlake in 2020-21. We have a range of formats to suit all players whatever their skill level.

Master Blasters: It is a super fun, social, safe, cricket program for boys and girls aged 7 and 8. The program is much shorter than traditional cricket, with a maximum of 90 minutes playing time. All the equipment is supplied and the games take place at the Deakin oval behind the Mint each week on a Friday evening. For enquiries please email Mike Matthews.

U10 and U11 modified rules: Under 10 cricket is the start of traditional cricket played on a synthetic wicket. It is suitable for children aged 8 and 9 (as at 31 August) who are ready to take the step up to the next level. U11 is for children aged 9 and 10. The modified rules, include reduced team numbers (7) and shorter pitch length (16m) to ensure maximum fun and participation. U10 is non-competitive  and is played on Friday evenings and Sunday mornings. U11 offers a range of options, including ungraded (Friday and Sunday) and Division 1 (Saturday).

U12 and U13: 9 a side, played off an 18m pitch. U12 is played on Friday evenings (ungraded); Saturday morning (Division 1) and Sunday morning (Division 2). U13 is played on Saturday mornings (Division 1 and 2).

U14 and above: 11 a side, traditional rules. Played on Saturday mornings (Division 1 turf) and Division 2.
Girls Plate and Cup Cricket: The plate and cup competitions are based on the junior open format with the plate competition suitable for girls newer to cricket, and the cup competition for more experienced players.  Competition matches are usually played on Friday evenings.

Age rules for ACT Cricket: Children play in the age group depending on their age at 31 August e.g. if you turn 12 on 31 August you must play in U13; if you turn 12 on 1 September you were 11 on 31 August and can play in U12. Players are graded based on ability. Age exemptions are available for children born near the cut-off date who have a valid reason for playing down a year (e.g no available team in older age group; playing with friends etc).
